Ilona Spleit is a string specialist who has been providing outstanding string instructions for over 40 years in the area (33 years for the HWDSB). Former students of hers include solo performers, performers in philharmonic orchestras around the world, conductors, teachers at universities, colleges and schools, an adjudicator for the Royal Conservatory Of Music, and those that now have a greater appreciation of music .
Learning to play a stringed instrument is a very challenging endeavour. With Ilona students learn to play violin, viola, cello or bass correctly, as well as to read music. More importantly they learn to interpret the music. Making music is an experience that involves the whole body- mind, heart and soul. Students learn to feel and to sing what they are learning, which allows for a more beautiful and rewarding result. Emphasis is placed on the attention to detail, proper technique, and supportive theoretical knowledge - all taught in a fun and motivating environment.
Students are challenged to set goals and to try to reach potential through team work and regular practice. A special concert at the end of each term gives the opportunity for students to showcase their talents to friends and relatives.
